Water Seals
A properly sealed chimney will repel water, preventing it from being absorbed by the masonry, which the number one cause for chimney deterioration. Professional chimney sealant will still allow the water vapor present in flue gases in the chimney to pass through, but it won't allow water drops from outside the chimney (rain) to be absorbed. Standard commercial water seals are great for your deck, but not for your chimney because they are not vapor permeable and therefore can actually cause damage to the structure of the chimney. The professional grade product we use, ChimneySaver, needs only one application every 10 years. Combined with a cap your chimney will be well protected against water damage.
