Stone or Tile Work
Stone and/or tile can be added to walls and floors around a freestanding unit or an insert.
These can make a newly added appliance look as though it was part of the home's original design. You can also completely change the appearance of the room by changing the area surrounding the appliance.
In most circumstances there needs to be a protective layer underneath the stone or tile to ensure proper clearances to combustibles. The requirements vary by individual appliance as set by the manufacturer. If the manufacturer's clearance requirements are unknown the NFPA has "default" requirements to ensure your safety.
